Subtitle to plain text reads the cues of a subtitle file and writes their words alone, a blank line between them, under your name with a .txt extension. Brace tags and angle-bracket tags come out of each cue first. No cue is compared with the next, so a rolling caption repeats its line again.

What does the output look like?
Only the dialogue. No timestamps, no cue numbers and no formatting tags, with one cue per paragraph separated by a blank line, in the order the cues appear in the file. Both ASS-style override tags in braces and HTML-style tags are stripped from the text first.
Are repeated lines merged?
No. Rolling captions that repeat a line across several cues come out as several paragraphs, because nothing here compares one cue with the next. Deduplicate afterwards if that matters; the result is plain text, so any text tool can take it from there.
Which subtitle formats can I feed it?
SRT, VTT, ASS, SSA and SBV, decided by the file extension. Anything else is refused with a message naming those five. For ASS and SSA only the Dialogue lines in the Events section are read, so style definitions never end up in your text.
What file do I get?
Your file name with a .txt extension, so lecture.srt becomes lecture.txt. The text is shown on the page as well, with a copy button that copies all of it even when the on-screen preview is shortened. Your original file is not changed, so keep it if you still need the timings after taking the transcript out of it.
Is a transcript with timings possible?
Not from this tool; it exists to throw the timings away. Keep the subtitle file itself if you need them, or use Shift subtitle timing and the format converters to get the timed file into the shape you want first.
