PNG to PSD

Wrap a PNG in a Photoshop document. The PSD holds a single flat layer, so nothing in the picture comes back separated or editable.

PNG to PSD wraps the picture in a Photoshop document holding it as the flat canvas composite. Reach for this when a print shop or a template demands a .psd file. There is no named layer over it, no mask, no text and no smart object, so nothing becomes editable.

Questions

Do I get an editable, layered PSD?

No. The PNG becomes a single flat layer inside the PSD, since there is only one pixel buffer to write; nothing here separates a picture into layers the way a real Photoshop document would.

What is preserved?

The full pixel data and alpha channel, exactly as the PNG had them, since the flattened composite mode stores color and transparency losslessly. Nothing is thrown away in this direction.

Which engine handles this?

jSquash decodes the PNG and ag-psd writes the PSD, wrapping the same pixel buffer psd-to-png reads back out. Both run in Node, on the command line, through MCP and in the browser the same way.

What size should I expect?

Larger than the source PNG in most cases, since the PSD format carries its own container overhead around raw pixel data PNG already compressed losslessly.

What is the reverse page?

PSD to PNG runs the opposite direction, reading the flattened composite back out; a PSD saved without Maximize Compatibility is refused there the same way this direction always produces a readable one.
