Zero-width steganography decode

Zero-width steganography decode. Runs entirely on your device, nothing is uploaded.

Input

live

Zero-width steganography decode reads the invisible characters appended to a pasted text and prints the hidden payload text. It looks for a zero-width joiner terminator marking the end of the bit stream, refusing outright when none is found. A bit count that is not a whole number of bytes, or invalid UTF-8 bytes, are both reported as corrupt.

Questions

What happens if the text has no hidden payload?

It refuses with "no zero-width payload found (missing U+200D terminator)", since the decoder specifically looks for that terminator character to know where the encoded bits end.

What does a corrupt payload look like to this tool?

Two cases are caught explicitly: bits that do not add up to a whole number of bytes, reported with the exact bit total found, and bytes that decode to invalid UTF-8, reported as "hidden payload bits decoded to invalid UTF-8".

Does it need the original cover text to decode correctly?

No. It scans the whole input for the specific zero-width marker characters and ignores every other character, so the visible cover text plays no part in decoding; only the invisible characters matter.

Can it decode a payload hidden by a different tool?

Only if that tool used the exact same three-character scheme, zero-width space for 0, zero-width non-joiner for 1, zero-width joiner as terminator. A different steganography scheme using other invisible characters will not be recognized.

Does it show me the cover text as well as the payload?

No. The output is only the decoded payload text; the visible cover text the payload was hidden behind is not repeated back in the result.
