M4A to WAV
Decode the AAC audio inside an M4A file into an uncompressed WAV. Useful for older editing software that reads WAV but not M4A; no quality returns, AAC already discarded it once.
M4A to WAV unpacks the AAC audio sealed inside an M4A container into a raw, uncompressed WAV file. This mainly helps legacy editing tools that open WAV but never learned M4A; nothing AAC already discarded on the way in comes back. WebCodecs performs the decode, so this page needs a browser.
Questions
Does this bring back quality AAC discarded?
No. AAC already discarded it once, and decoding to WAV only stores whatever samples come out of that decode, uncompressed, without restoring anything.
Why convert to WAV instead of keeping M4A?
Older editing software that reads WAV but not M4A is the usual reason. WAV trades file size for being readable by tools that never added M4A support.
Which engine handles this, and where can it run?
mediabunny and WebCodecs decode the AAC audio inside the M4A container and write uncompressed PCM samples into a WAV container. This is browser only; the command line and MCP refuse it and point to the web page, since decoding AAC runs through WebCodecs.
What size should I expect?
A real WAV several times larger than the source M4A for the same duration, with a proper RIFF/WAVE header, plausible channel count and sample rate, verified against the fixture test.
What is the reverse page?
There is no dedicated wav-to-m4a page. Convert audio can write m4a from a WAV source directly.
