TS to MP4
Repackage an MPEG transport stream (.ts) into MP4. TS repeats its stream tables throughout the file for channel-hopping and has no seek index; MP4 gets one, so the same packets seek instantly once copied across.
TS to MP4 moves an MPEG transport stream into an MP4 wrapper with no decode and no re-encode. A broadcast stream repeats its tables constantly so viewers can join mid-channel, and carries no seek index at all; MP4 builds one once the same packets land inside it. Node, the CLI, or MCP handle this exactly like a browser tab does.
Questions
Why convert a TS at all if nothing about the picture changes?
For seeking. TS repeats its stream tables throughout the file for channel-hopping and carries no seek index, while MP4 gets one from this conversion, so the same packets seek instantly once copied across.
Is anything lost?
No decode happens, so the video and audio are copied exactly. A track using a codec MP4 cannot legally hold is refused by name rather than dropped silently.
Which engine handles this, and where can it run?
A packet-copy remux tool moves data through mediabunny with no decode step, running in Node, on the command line and through MCP as well as the browser.
What size should I expect?
Close to the source TS size; the compressed video and audio data is unchanged, and the MP4 index adds only a small amount of overhead.
What is the reverse page?
There is none. Nothing on this site writes an MPEG transport stream.
