Flip video

Mirror a video left to right, or flip it top to bottom, one decoded frame at a time. In the browser only, like video-watermark, because compositing needs a decoded frame from WebCodecs, which Node has no equivalent of. Always outputs MP4. Nothing is uploaded.

Input

Options

Flip video mirrors a clip left to right, or turns it top to bottom, redrawing every frame after a full decode rather than copying packets. That redraw needs WebCodecs, so this page runs in the browser only, and the output is always MP4. Audio carries through untouched alongside the flipped picture.

Questions

What is the difference between horizontal and vertical?

horizontal mirrors the picture left to right, the usual meaning of flipping video. vertical flips it top to bottom instead, upside down rather than mirrored.

Does flipping change the video quality?

Yes, slightly. Producing a mirrored frame needs a real decode and re-encode of every frame through WebCodecs, so expect one generation of quality loss, the same trade every compositing tool here makes.

What format does the output come in?

Always MP4, named after your input with -flipped.mp4 on the end, regardless of what container went in.

Does audio survive the flip?

Yes, carried through unchanged alongside the flipped video track, since only the picture is being redrawn.

Why does it need a browser?

Because drawing each frame flipped onto a canvas needs a decoded frame from WebCodecs, which Node does not implement. The CLI and MCP surfaces refuse it.

Packets are copied straight from the source into a new MP4, so this runs in Node, the CLI and MCP as well as the browser. A packet-level copy with no decoding, so this runs in Node, the CLI and MCP as well. A packet-level copy, no decoding, so this runs in Node, the CLI and MCP as well as the browser. Most players honour this metadata; a player that ignores it will show the original orientation.Runs on each file you dropn→nChange video speedSpeed a video up or down by rescaling the timestamp on every packet. A packet-level copy, no decoding, so this runs in Node, the CLI and MCP as well as the browser. Audio speeds up with the video and its pitch shifts along with it, the same trade-off most simple speed-change tools make; correcting pitch back to normal needs decoding and resampling the audio, which this tool deliberately does not do.Runs on each file you dropn→nVideo metadataRead a video container apart without decoding a frame: format, duration, every stream's codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate and language, plus rotation and creation time where the file carries them.
