Extrude an SVG to 3D
Extrude an SVG's filled shapes into a solid 3D model. Reads rects, circles and paths through three's own SVGLoader; text elements are not converted to outlines and are skipped, the same limitation the loader itself has. Runs in Node, the CLI and MCP as well as the browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Extrude an SVG to 3D pushes filled shapes into a solid model at a chosen depth and scale, exported as STL or GLB. Shapes come from three's own SVGLoader, which reads rects, circles and paths but leaves text untouched and unconverted. The SVG's Y axis is flipped so the model sits right side up in a normal Y-up viewer.
Questions
Which SVG elements does it extrude?
Rects, circles and paths, everything three.js SVGLoader reads as a filled shape. Text elements are not converted to outlines and are simply skipped, which is a limitation of the loader itself rather than something this tool adds on top.
What controls the extrusion?
depth sets how far the shapes are pushed along the third axis, in the SVGs own user units; scale applies a uniform multiplier to the SVGs coordinates before the extrusion happens, so it changes overall size without changing proportions.
What output formats can I choose?
STL or GLB, set with format, STL by default.
Does it need a browser to run?
No. Unlike most of the other 3D tools that read images or render frames, extruding an SVG needs no GPU work, so it runs the same way in Node, on the command line and through MCP as it does on the page.
Why does my model come out upside down compared to the SVG?
It does not; the SVGs Y axis points down while a conventional Y-up 3D viewer expects the opposite, so the geometry is deliberately flipped and re-centred to read right side up in that kind of viewer.
What happens if the SVG has no filled shapes?
It refuses with a message saying no filled shapes were found to extrude, since rects, circles and paths are read but text is not, and an SVG made only of text elements has nothing here to build a solid from.
