Text to 3D

Turn typed text into an extruded 3D model, glyph outlines from opentype.js flattened to Bezier shapes and extruded to a chosen depth. Font is one of four bundled Liberation Sans faces. Nothing is uploaded.

Options

Text to 3D extrudes typed text into a solid model, tracing each glyph with opentype.js and pushing the shapes to a chosen depth. Only four bundled Liberation Sans styles serve as the font, regular, bold, italic or bolditalic, with no way to add another. Height sets an approximate size only, since no cap-height table is read to match it exactly.

Questions

What fonts are available?

Four bundled Liberation Sans faces: regular, bold, italic and bolditalic, chosen with the font option; there is no way to supply your own font file.

Can I upload a font or an image instead of typing text?

No. This tool takes no file input at all; text is the only input, typed directly into the option, and it always builds its model from that typed string.

How accurate is the height setting?

Approximate only. height scales the outline so its em-square is that many units tall, but a true cap-height match would need this fonts own os2.sCapHeight table, which is never read, so treat height as a rough target rather than an exact measurement.

What controls the extrusion depth?

depth, in the same units as height, defaulting to 2.

What happens if my text has unsupported characters or is blank?

It refuses with a message naming the text you gave, saying it produced no glyph outlines, since a string that traces no closed shapes has nothing here for the extrusion step to work with.

What output formats can I choose?

STL or GLB, set with format, STL by default; the file is named after your text, cleaned to safe filename characters.
