Scan barcode with camera

Point your camera at a QR code or barcode and decode it live, entirely on your device.

Scan barcode with camera reads a QR code or barcode from a live camera feed, decoding frames as the video plays, with no file uploaded or saved. A separate page panel opens the camera and runs the zxing-wasm reader against each frame, so this tool's own function does essentially nothing. Command line and MCP refuse, since neither has a camera.

Questions

Why does the command line refuse to run this?

Because the tool is marked runtime browser, and its own code throws immediately, pointing you at the page instead. The actual scanning is done by a separate companion panel that opens your camera directly and never calls this tools function at all.

What does the tools own code do?

Almost nothing by design. A page companion drives getUserMedia and the zxing-wasm reader directly against live video frames; this tools own run function exists only so the CLI, MCP and any worker context have something to refuse loudly rather than silently doing nothing.

Do I need to upload a file?

No. There is no file input at all here; the input is a live camera feed opened directly in your browser tab, decoded frame by frame as it plays.

What happens if I call it through MCP?

It refuses the same way the command line does, since MCP calls run through the same browser-only guard: there is no camera or video stream available outside a page you have open.
