List a font's kerning pairs

Read GPOS pair-adjustment kerning, falling back to a legacy `kern` table when there is no GPOS, and list every glyph pair the font kerns with its horizontal adjustment, first 500, footnoted with the real total.

Input

List a font's kerning pairs reads GPOS pair-adjustment lookups, or a legacy kern table when GPOS is absent. It reports each kerned glyph pair alongside its horizontal adjustment value; pairs with a zero adjustment are skipped. The list is capped at 500 pairs, with the real total in a footnote. A font with neither table reports no kerning data.

Questions

Where does the kerning data come from?

Primarily GPOS pair-adjustment lookups, the modern OpenType mechanism; if a font has no GPOS pairs, or none produce a nonzero adjustment, the tool falls back to reading a legacy kern table instead.

What happens when a font has neither kind of kerning data?

It reports "no kerning data, no GPOS pair-adjustment lookup and no legacy kern table" rather than an empty table.

Are pairs with zero adjustment shown?

No. A pair contributing a zero adjustment is skipped entirely, since it has no visible kerning effect to report.

What does the 500-pair limit mean for a large font?

Only the first 500 kerning pairs found are printed in the table, but the real total count is still calculated across the whole font and appears in the footnote below the table, along with which source, GPOS or the legacy kern table, the data came from.

How are the glyphs identified in the table?

By their mapped Unicode character where the font provides one, shown as a code point and the character itself, or by the font's internal glyph name or numeric id when there is no Unicode mapping for that glyph.
