Check a font's Unicode block coverage

Count, block by block, how many of a Unicode block's code points a font maps a glyph to, cmap only, so it says nothing about whether the font can shape combining marks or complex scripts correctly.

Input

Check a font's Unicode block coverage counts, block by block, how many code points the font maps to a glyph, across thirty-one blocks. Coverage is read from the cmap table, with control characters excluded from the count and the block size. A footnote names which of eleven common scripts the font fully covers. It says nothing about shaping combining marks.

Questions

How many Unicode blocks does it check?

Thirty-one curated blocks, covering ranges like Basic Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Devanagari, Hiragana and CJK Unified Ideographs; it is a selected list rather than every block Unicode defines, since checking all roughly 300 would add more noise than signal on a tool page.

Why are control characters excluded from the percentages?

Because no font maps a glyph to a control code such as a C0 control or the delete character, so counting them in a block's size would cap every font at well under 100 percent for blocks like Basic Latin that include them.

What does the footnote about "fully covers" mean?

It lists which of eleven common scripts, such as Latin-1, Cyrillic, Arabic or CJK, the font maps every single code point in, after control characters are excluded; a font missing even one code point in a script's range does not get listed as fully covering it.

Does full coverage of a script mean the font can render it correctly?

No. This only checks whether the font's cmap table maps each code point to some glyph; it says nothing about whether the font can correctly shape combining marks, ligatures or complex scripts that need more than one glyph per character.

Where does the coverage data come from?

The font's cmap table alone, the same character-to-glyph map a browser or operating system consults; nothing about GSUB, GPOS or other layout tables is examined here.
