ID / passport crop presets

Center-crop a photo to a named ID/passport aspect ratio, then resize to that preset's standard pixel size. This crops and resizes only. It does not check face position, background color, or any country's actual photo requirements. Runs entirely on your device.

Runs on your device. The file is never uploaded.

ID / passport crop presets centre-crops a photo to one of four aspect ratios, then resizes it to that preset's pixel size. Those are us-passport 600x600, eu-passport 413x531, id-card 1013x638 and square-avatar 512x512. Quality defaults to 90 and the format is kept. The crop is always taken from the centre, so a subject off to one side is cut away.

Questions

Does this make my photo compliant with passport rules?

No, and that is worth being clear about. It centre-crops to a preset aspect ratio and resizes to that preset pixel size. It does not check face position or size, head tilt, background colour, shadows, expression, glasses, or any country requirement. Treat it as a crop and resize step, then check the result against the rules for the document you are applying for.

Which presets are there?

Four. US passport or visa at 600x600, which is 2x2 inches at 300 dpi. EU or Schengen passport at 413x531, which is 35x45mm at 300 dpi. ID or credit card size, CR80, at 1013x638, which is 85.6x53.98mm at 300 dpi, wider than tall. And a 1:1 avatar at 512x512. The default is the US passport preset.

How does it decide what to crop?

It crops from the centre. The preset aspect ratio is compared with your image, then either the sides or the top and bottom are trimmed evenly until the shape matches, and the result is resized to the preset pixel size. There is no face detection, so if your subject is off to one side, crop it yourself with Crop image first.

What if my photo is smaller than the preset size?

The crop step never invents pixels, but the resize step will enlarge whatever is left up to the preset dimensions, so a small source becomes a soft print at the right size. For a 600x600 US passport image, start from a photo at least 600 pixels on its short side.

What do I get back and does it upload anything?

One file per input, named with the preset appended, such as me-us-passport.jpg, in the input format, with JPG and WebP encoded at the Quality option, default 90. The page reports the before and after size with the preset label. Everything runs in a Web Worker on your device using the jSquash codecs, with nothing uploaded.
