Record screen

Record a clip of your screen or a window in the browser, then hand it to video-convert to save it as a real MP4 or WebM. Recording needs getDisplayMedia and MediaRecorder, both unavailable to a background script, so this only runs from its own page, never the CLI or MCP. Nothing is uploaded.

Record screen captures a picked screen, window, or browser tab, then passes the clip to Convert video for a finished MP4 or WebM file. Capture depends on getDisplayMedia and MediaRecorder, two APIs no background script can reach. Because of that, only this tool's own page can run it, never the command line or MCP.

Questions

What does pressing Start capture?

Your screen, a window, or a browser tab, chosen through the browser's own screen sharing picker, using the getDisplayMedia API.

What format is the recording saved as?

The raw capture is handed to Convert video, which encodes it into a real MP4 or WebM file through WebCodecs once you stop recording.

Why can I not run this from a script?

Because getDisplayMedia and MediaRecorder both require a real user gesture and an active tab, neither available to a background script. The CLI and MCP surfaces refuse it entirely.

Does the recording get sent anywhere while I record?

No. Capture, encoding and saving all happen inside the page you have open, with no server involved at any point.

Can I record my microphone at the same time?

Screen capture can include system or tab audio depending on what the browser's sharing picker offers, but this tool is aimed at the screen, not a separate microphone mix.
